ITALY – KPM Analytics has completed a major expansion of its vision inspection system manufacturing facility in Pergine Valsugana, Trento, Italy, increasing its production footprint to 22,000 square feet.
The investment is aimed at addressing rising global demand for in-line food inspection solutions, especially from baking and snack manufacturers navigating higher volumes and stricter quality specifications.
The newly expanded site now more than doubles the company’s production capacity for its core vision inspection technologies, including the Q-Bake In-Line Vision Inspection System, the EyePro Laner for packaging lane balancing, and the TheiaVu E-Series for at-line product measurement.
These systems are used on high-speed food lines to assess real-time attributes such as product color, shape, size, topping consistency, and the presence of foreign materials.
Growing global demand from the baking and snack industry
Food manufacturers, particularly in the bakery and snack categories, continue to adopt advanced process control technologies as consumer expectations and safety regulations evolve.
According to company executives, the upgraded facility will support manufacturers under pressure to meet more precise quality parameters while reducing manual checks.
“Customers are dealing with tighter specifications and faster production cycles,” said Brian Mitchell, CEO of KPM Analytics.
“Automated inspection systems that can detect deviations immediately, not post-process, are becoming foundational.”
In response, the company has integrated capabilities for factory acceptance testing, on-site customer training, and live demonstrations into the Pergine Valsugana location. These services are designed to support onboarding and allow producers to evaluate inspection accuracy before system deployment.
AI-driven inspection and software development capabilities
Beyond manufacturing, the site includes specialized development areas for hardware and software innovation.
These facilities focus on enhancing foreign material detection using artificial intelligence and hyperspectral imaging, techniques that allow machines to identify contaminants that may be invisible to the human eye or conventional vision systems.
According to Andrea Bertuolo, General Manager for Vision Inspection Technologies at KPM Analytics, the expansion aligns with shifting operational needs across the food sector.
“We are seeing increased interest in systems that merge advanced image analysis with AI to improve detection and classification,” he noted.
The location will also serve as a central hub for developing software models capable of analyzing products at scale, helping processors achieve continuous quality assurance with minimal operator intervention.
Integration of EyePro System and business expansion
KPM Analytics entered the food vision inspection space through its 2021 acquisition of EyePro System, an Italian company known for high-speed in-line defect detection solutions.
Since then, the company has prioritized expanding capacity and building a modular system architecture that supports customization for various production environments.
The Pergine Valsugana expansion follows recent growth projects in Orem, Utah; Villeneuve, France; Ottawa, Canada; and Westborough, Massachusetts, and brings the company’s total to 12 manufacturing and support locations globally.
KPM Analytics operates across various sectors including food, feed, agriculture, and environmental analysis.
Its portfolio includes brands such as Unity Scientific, Sightline, Process Sensors, Smart Vision Works, and CHOPIN Technologies. Each provides analytical and inspection systems tailored to critical parameters in processing environments.
The company stated that the expanded Italy facility is expected to help reduce lead times and better accommodate orders from both established and emerging food producers worldwide.
